Overview
Ordway now supports sending enhanced transactional data Level 2 (L2) and Level 3 (L3) card data to Adyen during credit card processing. This feature enriches the information shared with the payment gateway, helping improve authorization accuracy, reduce interchange fees for eligible merchants, and strengthen payment reporting and reconciliation.
This article explains what L2/L3 data includes, business benefits, prerequisites, and how Ordway transmits this enhanced information to Adyen.
Level 1, Level 2 & Level 3 Transaction Data
Credit card networks classify transactions into three levels of data, depending on the volume and detail of information transmitted during authorization.
Level 1 (Standard Data)
Level 1 includes the basic payment information required to process a credit card transaction:
Credit card number
Expiry date
CVV
Transaction amount
Merchant Details
This is the default data used in most consumer transactions.
Level 2 (Enhanced Data)
Level 2 data add additional commercial and tax-related information. It is primarily used for business, government, and corporate cards.
Examples of L2 fields:
Customer reference or purchase order number
Invoice number
Sales tax amount
Merchant tax identification
Destination postal code
Order date
These fields help card networks and issuing banks assess the transaction more accurately and may qualify merchants for reduced interchange rates.
Level 3 (Line-Item Level Data)
Level 3 is the highest level of transaction detail and includes full line-item breakdowns. It is typically used for B2B or B2G transactions requiring detailed invoice-level documentation.
Examples of L3 fields:
Line-item descriptions
Product or SKU codes
Unit price
Quantity
Discounts
Extended line totals
