Import Wizard Overview
The Import Wizard provides a guided way to import and update data in Ordway. It helps you prepare import files, map fields, review data, resolve errors, and track import results.
The Import Wizard supports bulk imports for supported Ordway objects and provides a structured three-step process for preparing, importing, and reviewing data.
When to Use the Import Wizard
Use the Import Wizard when you need to create or update multiple records in Ordway without entering each record individually.
Common use cases include:
- Migrating data from another system during implementation.
- Creating or updating records without using APIs.
- Importing external payments, such as payments received by check.
- Uploading usage records in bulk on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
- Updating standard or custom fields in bulk.
The Import Wizard is available for supported objects. For a list of supported objects and available import methods, see Import Data in Ordway: Import Wizard vs. Traditional Import.
Prerequisites
Before importing data, make sure you have Add & Edit permissions for the objects you want to import.
Import Wizard Process
The Import Wizard uses a three-step process:
- Build an Import File — Prepare your data using the required import file format.
- Import Data — Upload the file, map fields, review the data, and resolve errors.
- View Import History — Review the status and results of previous imports.
Step 1: Build an Import File
Prepare your data in an import file using the format required for the object you want to import.
The Import Wizard provides sample templates to help you create import files. Depending on the object, the file may contain multiple worksheets for related data.
For detailed instructions, see Step 1: Build an Import File.
Step 2: Import Data
Upload the completed import file to the Import Wizard and map the fields in your file to the corresponding Ordway fields.
Depending on the object and import, you can review the data before importing it and identify and resolve errors.
For detailed instructions, see Step 2: Import Data.
Step 3: View Import History
After an import is submitted, you can review its status and results in the Import Wizard.
Import history helps you track previous imports and identify whether an import was completed successfully or requires further action.
For detailed instructions, see Step 3: View Import History.
Import Limits
The Import Wizard supports up to 25,000 records per import.
Note: Import limits may vary by object or import type. Verify the applicable limit before performing a large import.
