Units of Measure (UoM) is a useful tool after implementation when there are changes to the UoM label configured in Usage Charges.
As part of Operations, Usage is uploaded on a periodic basis via .CSV import or provided via API integration. Ordway matches the UoM in the upload file or API JSON, with the UoM in the related Customers’ Subscription.
Example: When the Usage charge relates to the amount of time spent providing professional services, the UoM might be hours. When Usage charges relate to the amount of data storage, the UoM might be GB or TB.
It is important to note that each type of Usage must have a unique UoM.
Example: When there is one Usage charge for the number of hours for Customer support, and a separate Usage charge for the number of hours for translation services, the UoM for each must be unique. In this example, the UoM corresponding to Customer support could be CS Hours and the UoM corresponding to translation services could be TS Hours.
When a Usage charge is added to a Plan or Subscription, the UoM is automatically created on the Units of Measure screen.
Considerations:
Although it is optional to add UoM manually on this page, it is not needed because they automatically populate when a new Unit of Measure is created for a Usage charge in a Plan or Subscription.
Steps:
- Navigate to Menu > Setup > Billing > Manage Units of Measure.
- Click Add to create a new Unit of Measure.
- Populate the new Unit of Measure.
4. Save when finished.
