Before You Begin

- Make sure you have the required permissions to import Contact records.
Contact Imports
Use the Contact Import option when creating or updating Contacts only.
Use the Customer Import option when importing Customers and Contacts together.
Important: A Customer import includes both a Customers tab and a Contacts tab. If you are importing only Contact records, use the Contact Import option.
Field Requirements
The following indicators identify field requirements:
- X — Required for the specified operation.
- * — May be required based on settings or additional selections.
- — — No specific requirement is defined for the operation.

| Create | Indicates whether the field is required or conditionally required when creating a Contact. |
| Update | Indicates whether the field is required or conditionally required when updating a Contact. |

The Contacts tab supports standard and custom fields for creating and updating Contact records.

Best Practice
Use consistent geographical values
Use consistent values for geographical information across your Customer and Contact data.
For example, if a shipping address uses NYC as the city while tax-related data uses New York City, the values may not be recognized as the same location. This can result in incorrect tax application.
Establish consistent conventions within your organization for entering:
- City
- State
- Country
- Billing and shipping addresses
Consistent geographical data helps ensure that tax calculations and other location-dependent functionality work as expected.
