Resolve a contract term update error caused by existing Billing Schedule Lines that extend beyond the proposed Contract Term End Date.
Error
When updating the Contract Term End Date, you may see the following error:
"Contract term is invalid as certain periods have already been invoiced beyond current term end date."
Cause
This error occurs when one or more Billing Schedule Lines (BSLs) have an End Date or Charge Ready Date later than the proposed Contract Term End Date.
Even if the contract is being shortened to a one-month term, the Contract Term End Date cannot be set earlier than an existing billed period.
Resolution
- Create a Custom Report that includes:
- Billing Schedule Line End Date
- Charge Ready Date
- Contract and Subscription details
- Run the report and identify any BSLs with an End Date or Charge Ready Date later than the desired Contract Term End Date.
- Identify the latest applicable BSL End Date or Charge Ready Date.
- Update the Contract Term End Date to a date that is equal to or later than the latest BSL End Date or Charge Ready Date.
- Save the contract and verify that the update completes successfully.
Result
Once the Contract Term End Date is aligned with the existing billing schedule dates, the contract can be updated successfully.
